ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday accepted India's invitation to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the neighbouring country's prime minister-elect Narendra Modi, a spokesman for the Prime Minister House said.

The decision was made after a series of consultations that the premier held with his close aides.

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz told Dawn that he had a series of meetings yesterday and day before with the premier in which the issue was discussed.

Moreover, Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said details of the visit were being worked out with the Indian authorities, including the composition of the prime minister’s delegation.

She said it was most likely that Aziz would accompany Prime Minister Sharif to New Delhi.

Sharif is among the leaders of member states of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) invited by Modi. It is the first time in Indian history that leaders from neighbouring countries have been invited to the swearing-in ceremony of a prime minister.

Analysts had asserted that a slightly delayed response was due to the fact that Pakistan would be keen to insert a meaningful agenda during the usually accommodated bilateral talks even if the occasion has a multi-lateral flavour.
FO announces schedule of PM's visit to India

The Foreign office has announced the schedule of the visit of the Prime Minister Sharif to India saying it would be a two day visit.

"In response to the invitation to the oath-taking ceremony of Prime Minister-designate of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, the prime minister would be travelling to New Delhi on May 26, 2014. Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Secretary to the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary would accompany him,” Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam told dawn .com.

The spokesperson said according to the programme received from India, the prime minister will have a bilateral meeting with Modi on the morning of May 27.

She said the premier would also call on the President of India and after completion of his meetings, he would return to Pakistan in the afternoon of May 27, 2014.

He is so quick to accept.

There is some truth in a saying that shopkeepers like him should not be allowed leadership at all.

Even Bangladeshis came up with an excuse!

Military is not going to like this.

Indeed, SEM, the Military is going to resent this Indian trip. But it's all to the good finally, or so it would seem. The more mistakes PMLN NS accumulates, the quicker we can hope to get rid of the man and his out-of-hand Party.

Fortune smiled on them on May 11, 2013, letting them get away with the worst kind of poll rigging. A trouble-free year followed in which all they did was loot, cheat and sink us into a debt mire from which future generations will unsuccessfully struggle to escape. Then suddenly things changed and mistakes began to be accumulated at a frightening speed, the latest among them being this planned trip to see Modi.

So there's still some hope that we may not have to put up with NS burden for very much longer now.
Can we really afford to have men and women who deal in billions in bribes (PMLN) as compared to the past government whose members only demanded millions of the same? No, we can't.

Relations with India: Govt urge to get tough on Kashmir issue

By Our Correspondent

Published: May 29, 2014

ISLAMABAD:
Right wing religious groups on Wednesday demanded the government must adopt an aggressive stance towards India on Kashmir issue as they warned they would not allow trade with the eastern neighbour unless the government changed its docile stance.

Converged on the platform of Jamaat ud Dawah (JuD), representatives of various religious groups criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for not taking up Kashmir issue, water disputes and other contentious issues with his new Indian counterpart during his recent visit to New Delhi.

JuD had gathered large numbers of students and workers in Aabpara chowk in the heart of capital city on culmination of its weeklong activities to celebrate Youm-e-Takbeer – the date on which Pakistan conducted atomic tests in 1998 in response to India’s atomic blasts.

In his concluding speech, JuD chief Hafiz Saeed asked the government to adopt a tough stance on Kashmir, and force India to follow Nehru-Liaqat agreement of early 1950’s under which both the countries had pledged to protect minorities in their respective countries.

He also criticised efforts to normalise trade ties with India and suggested that Pakistan should focus on its trade ties with China and work on constituting a trade and economic block with Muslim countries on the pattern of European Union.

Ansar ul Islam’s Maulana Fazalur Rehman Khalil said Indians had proved the two nation theory correct by electing extremist right leader wing Narendra Modi. “By acquiring atomic technology, Pakistani nation has followed an important command of Allah, who has ordered the Muslims to stay strong for their defence,” he added.

Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) former chief Gen Hameed Gul highlighted the services of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Gen Ziaul Haq, Dr A Q Khan, Dr Samar Mubarakmand, successive military chiefs and many others in acquiring atomic deterrence.

“One of our real heroes was also former president Ghulam Ishaq Khan who remained attached with this atomic programme in different capacities,” he said, adding that Pakistan had acquired atomic technology by 1984 and it had conducted cold test on April 20, 1989.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Senator Talha Mahmood said the country was facing problems because the leadership was not sincere. He said Pakistan had become an atomic power because of the spirit of endurance of its people.

JuD central leader Amir Hamza said Modi had declared Hindutva rule in India, which was unacceptable. He claimed that if that happened India would split on the basis of religion once again and the Muslim population would converge to form another Pakistan. “The other religious minorities will have their separate homelands in what is today India,” he claimed.

Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Babar Awan said the prime minister’s team had let him down.

“The premier should have been briefed on the Kashmir cause. There are 23 conventions of the United Nations on Kashmir that are still pending,” he said.

Babar demanded that when the president addresses a joint session of both houses early next month, a resolution stressing to resolve the Kashmir dispute should be passed in the beginning of the session.

JuD central leader Professor Hafiz Abdur Rehman Makki said the credit for May 28 atomic explosions went to the military. Criticizing the PM’s visit to India, Makki said they were not against the PM but the way things were being handled it seemed the government was its own enemy.

“There is no comparison between India and Pakistan,” he said alluding to PM Nawaz’s statement on the similarities between both the countries.

Meanwhile Yaum-e-Takbeer was celebrated across the country and programmes and rallies were held in cities including Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Hazara division and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

He went, he saw and he certainly didn't conquer in the eyes of the majority of Pakistanis. Modi handed over a charge sheet against Pakistan to his guest. It can be summed up thus: Terrorism, terrorism, terrorism (which we of course would do better to read as False Flag, False Flag, False Flag) while honoured guest Nawaz Sharif did not even bring the K word to his lips. The article above describes the disgust of NS's natural allies, the religious parties. But the man has come back with ego swollen to bursting point. He has now announced enhanced operations in Karachi which he is planning to visit shortly once again. Plans for a circular road or some such for the torn City have also been announced. Not content with that, he used yesterday's Youm-e-Takbeer celebrations to remind us he was responsible for getting Pakistan ist atomic resources (a matter hotly contested in some circles) and issuing veiled threats aimed at Imran Khan and Sheikh Rashid.

Well, the man will never learn. Just ahead of us looms the unveiling of the 2014-2015 Budget which, by all accounts, will be a serious disappointment to most people who will have to live with it. The "travesty of justice" Musharraf case still lies unresolved, the GEO shenanigans have found no graceful way out and the Pak army is still looking at Nawaz Sharif with a jaundiced eye. If NS survives all this, we'll have to believe the man really must lead a charmed life.
